A sixth round of the co-mentoring by Heifer Philippines program to
Heifer Cambodia program was conducted from January 14-20. The purpose of the con-mentoring is for building the capacity
of Heifer Cambodia, sharing best practices and learning from each other for the growth of the two country programs.
In a meeting with the Heifer Cambodia Team, the action plan which was worked out by the two country programs in previous
six months during the fifth round of the co-mentoring was reviewed to see its impacts and achievements.
During the co-mentoring session, the co-mentor, Heifer Philippines
Country Director Edsabio, joined the Interview Committee of Heifer Cambodia to interview sort-listed candidates for
positions of Senior Program Officer for Field and Special Program Officer. The Committee was also joined by
Dr. Padma Singh, Asia/South Pacific Director of Programs.
Accompanied by the Heifer Cambodia Country Director and staff,
Dr. Edsabio visited three communities managed by two project partners Children Resource Development Association
and Krom Akphiwat Phum in Battambang Province. During his visit, he shared his ideas on three levels of impact
which reflected the success of values-base holistic community development approach and of project implementation.
He was impressed by outstanding activities of project participants who could secure their income generation as
they had livestock, rice, home garden and biogas units for livelihood improvement. He commented that it is good to
encourage the outstanding farmers to be farmers promoters who can share technology in agriculture for food and income
generation through farmer field school. It is also the opportunity to promote biogas use to more families.
He was fascinated by the community children clubs in which life skills and 12 values of Heifer Cornerstones were
included in academic curriculum. The Passing on the Gifts (POG) ceremony has to be held in public with participation
of local authorities, non-governmental organizations, and all stakeholders. The ceremony gives the opportunity to the
recipients to create commitment, said Dr. Edsabio when he attended the POG ceremony in a community.
