Our History
Heifer Project International- Cambodia (Heifer Cambodia), a non-profit and humanitarian organization, is a branch program of Heifer Project International (HPI) based in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. Heifer Cambodia has been active since 1984, primarily providing supports of infrastructure and capacity building for animal health and production sub-sector and veterinary diagnostic laboratory, including the technical training, vaccination program and Hemorrhagic Septicemia (HS) Vaccine Production Projects, in partnership with American Friend Service Committee (AFSC) and Church World Service (CWS). The HS vaccine production is the first vaccine production in Cambodia that was supported by HPI after the Killing Field Era in Cambodia. This vaccine production project was handed over to the Department of Animal Health and Production of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 1994. The veterinary training materials supported by HPI have been valuable for the veterinarians and for the training purposes.
In 1998, Heifer Cambodia has been ensuring its development phase by
continuing to support rural poor to meet their community genuine needs
and holistic community development toward alleviating hunger and
poverty. To ensure effective operation, Heifer Cambodia’s Representative
Office was established in Phnom Penh in January 1999 to be responsible
for the management of Heifer Cambodia Program and Partnership
Development. In 2003, Northwest Regional Office was established in Battambang
province while Southeast Regional Office was established in 2007 based
in Phnom Penh to facilitate the communication, project monitoring and
implementation with Heifer’s project partners, development agencies, and
the communities in the regions.
