the 12 existing
project partners were divided into two groups - six project
partners in each group - to practice the A/SP model of
co-mentoring. In the process of such co-learning/co-mentoring
which had never had before, each project partner conducted a
co-learning visit to another project partner for three days. The
purpose of the co-learning is for quality improvement, capacity
building, leaning from each other, and accountability
improvement of the project partners for their effectiveness and
efficiency and for the three levels (ground, deeper and
external) of great impact in project implementation.
During the co-learning visit among each other, they focused mainly on an approach of sharing and mainstreaming best practice, knowledge and experience to the communities, including Cornerstones, value-based holistic community development, technical skills and so forth, POG process, community saving scheme, water security within the communities, animal health cervices provided by village animal health workers, community meeting, financial management and quality improvement of progress report.
After the co-learning practice, the two groups held the sharing meeting for reflection with participation of Heifer Cambodia Program Coordinator as an observer. In the meeting, the co-learning teams learned their strengths from each other and identified room for improvement of their counterpart. Concerning the improvement of POG process, POG ceremony needs to be celebrated in public with participation of project beneficiaries, non-project beneficiaries and local authorities as well. Moreover, community saving system is still not significant in best practice, facing a lack of management. To overcome these challenges, the project partners are encouraged to help improve the saving system management to strengthen the communities’ local resource base for a long term development. They agreed that the saving scheme has to be reviewed with full participation of the community and well documented with general guideline from Heifer Cambodia and project beneficiaries’ socio-economic aspect.
At the end of the meeting, the co-learning teams worked out an action plan for second round of co-learning. According to the plan, a reflection meeting on the second round of co-learning is scheduled for next October 22-23.
